Site Announcement

Hey Gang,

This is going to be a short post: 1) because I already wrote it once and failed to save it 2) I NEED to study Kyrgyz.

Today, I got my permanent site announcement. Next week I will move to Karakol in Issyk-kol oblast to work at a university. I will be a teacher trainer working with a counterpart to teach techniques and methodology to teachers. I will also be conducting assessments and observing teaching practicums. My job will largely involve my teaching teachers unless I organize clubs for student. This is all the information I’ve gotten so far, and I’m sure the details will become clearer in the next few months.

As some of you may know, all PCVs live with host families during the first 3 months at site. Since I am in a city, I will likely move into an apartment sometime after that. I do know a little about my knew family. My host mom works at the university too. She has 3 kids. Two are students in Bishkek, but the youngest is a 6 year old girl, who I’m hoping to learn Russian from! Karakol is a bilingual city, so my hope is to keep on with Kyrgyz and pick up some Russian too. Speaking of languages, I need to get to studying. We have a language proficiency assessment in the next two days. Until then.

PS: Mom, I got the package with EVERYTHING in it! I ran in shoes for the first time since coming to this country (and I’ve been running, on average, every other day).  Also there is a PCVT organized fun run on Sunday in which I can now take part!
